Alloy 347 is a stabilized, austenitic, chromium steel containing columbium which allows for the elimination of carbide precipitation, and, consequently, Intergranular corrosion.
The addition of columbium also allows SS 347 Square Bars to have excellent corrosion resistance, even superior to that of alloy 321. Stainless Steel 347 Threaded Bar has a slightly improved corrosion resistance over other alloys of stainless steel in strongly oxidizing environments as a result of the addition of columbium (niobium) and tantalum.
Our Stainless Steel 347/347H Hollow Bars are used to take advantage of their low thermal expansion features even in composite mold tooling. In aero engines, the combination of Stainless Steel 347H Flat Bars for the cooler compressor areas and nickel superalloys for the hot gas path in the turbine, enable an optimized weight and performance ratio to be achieved.
